Hilton.— The news of the death of Mr. William Hilton, sen., of Maryvale, Tent Hill, was a shock to the community yesterday morning, by the fact that the deceased, was a prominent figure, mingling with the crowds that witnessed the show, and only last week look part in various public functions in the town. He returned home on Friday, and at 8 o'clock yesterday morning he had joined the Great Silent Majority.
In many an election battle in days gone "Billy" Hilton was a prominent worker, ever battling loyally in the interest of his political principles.
The late Mr. Hilton came to the district about 43 years ago, and resided with his people near Bald Nob. Some years ago he settled at Tent Hill, where, as a successful sheep man, he accumulated a competency.
Deceased possessed a kindly and bluff disposition, and was an ardent advocate of the interests of the man on the land.
A wife and grown-up family mourn the loss of an affectionate husband and father. Mrs. R. Duncan, sen., Mrs. Mason, and Messrs. R. and J. Hilton are related, while the late Mrs. Robinson, of Shannon Vale, was also a sister of deceased. The funeral takes place to-day.
