Biography

Rosa Florence Hilton (aka Rose) was born on 29 Apr 1881 in Aitkin county, Minnesota, USA to Lot Chapman Hilton and Lucretia (Garlinghouse) Hilton.

Rosa's parents appear to have separated when she was very young.

Her mother married Arnold Anderson in or before 1885. Rosa and her siblings used their stepfather's surname on the 1885 census, and Rosa's maiden name was given as Anderson on some later records (the birth of one of her daughters and the marriage records of some of her sons).

Rosa's father moved to Montana and remarried in 1890.

In 1885 Rosa Anderson (age 4) lived in Nordland, Aitkin county with her stepfather Arnold (32), mother Lucrecia (32), and four brothers: John (11), Sidney (8), Allen (6), and George (9 months).[1]

Rosa's stepfather passed away and her mother married James Garnins in or before 1895.

Rosa married Arthur Moses Harrison in about 1894.[2]

Rosa and Arthur had at least eleven children:

In 1895 Rosie Harison (age 14) lived in Nordland Township with her husband Aurther (21, Farming).[3] Rosa's family lived next door: stepfather James Garnins (36), mother Logrece Garnins (42), and five siblings: George Anderson (6), Ida M Anderson (7), Chas Hilton (23), Sidne Hilton (20), and Allen Hilton (16).

In 1900 Rosa F Harrison (age 19) lived in Camp Creek, Mohawk Precinct, Lane county, Oregon with her husband Arthur (26, Logger in Timber) - according to this census Rosa & Arthur had been married 6 years, and 2 children had been born in their marriage (none still living).[4]

In 1910 Rosa Harrison (age 29) lived in Kinross, Chippewa county, Michigan with her husband Arthur (36, Farmer General Farm) and four children: Maudy (9), Elmer (6), George (4), and Violet (0) - according to this census Rosa & Arthur had been married 16 years, and 6 children had been born (4 still living).[5]

In 1920 Rose F Harrison (age 39) lived in Sault Sainte Maire, Chippewa county with her husband Arthur M (46, Farmer General Farm) and eight children: Maud M (19, Teacher Public School), Elmer R (15), George W (12), Violet M (10), Allan C (8), Clarence L (4 years 8 months), Walter R (1 year 6 months), and Arthur L (2 months).[6]

In 1930 Rose Harrison (age 48, Boarding House/Own Business) lived in Royal Oak, Oakland county, Michigan with five of her sons: George W (23, Spot Welder at Auto Manuf), Clarence E (13), Walter R (12), Arthur L (11), and Clayton G (8).[7] Rose's husband Arthur (56, Laborer Automobile Factory) lived at 3126 Oakshire in Berkley, Oakland county with son-in-law Dewey Whitmer (21, Laborer Automobile Factory), daughter Violet M Whitmer (20), and grandson David Whitmer (5 months).[8]

Rose's husband Arthur Harrison passed away on 8 Jul 1934 in Royal Oak.

In 1940 Rose Harrison (age 58) lived at 149 [illegible] Avenue in Clawson, Royal Oak Township, Oakland county with three of her sons: George W (31, Laborer Auto Mfr), Walter (21, Laborer Park Construction), and Clayton (17, Laborer Ref??tation).[9]

Rosa F Harrison passed away on 15 Jan 1942 in Clawson - she was 60 years old; she was widowed; her father was Mr Hilton; she was born on 29 Apr 1881 in Aitkin, Minnesota.[10]

Rose F Harrison (1881-1942) is buried at Romulus Memorial Cemetery in Romulus, Wayne county, Michigan.[11]
