Martha was born in 1827 in Virginia. She was the daughter of William Hilton and Elizabeth Taylor. Her parents were found by researching her son James M. Shaver, finding him in the 1910 US census with his uncle John Hilton residing in his home. John must, therefore, be Martha's brother. John's Death Certificate listed his parents as stated here. We acknowledge the fact that they may not have had the same mother. That remains to be determined, but for now, we are making the assumption that she is. These sources will be listed with James & John.
She married George Thomas Shaver on 3 Aug 1848 according to his parent's Bible.[1] This marriage is on record in Montgomery County with the date of application.[2] The Security and Witness to said marriage was Jesse Taylor. If they followed the custom of the day, Jesse may well have been a brother to mother Elizabeth -- again, not yet proven.

To add to the confusion of Martha Jane Hilton Shaver (Hilton-883) & Martha Jane Hilton Taylor (Hilton-1260), I just found a death certificate in Botetourt Co, VA, for George Shaver (Nov 22, 1933) showing father George Shaver & mother Martha Taylor ... both parents born Montgomery Co, VA. George was married to Sarah.
Hilton-1260 and Hilton-883 do not represent the same person because: my martha was widowed and living with her Shaver children in 1880 in virginia, she was 50. I have a census and a marriage record. It appears we do have the same mother listed .. I will do more research and get back to you I think we have 2 different girls but there is a mistake with the parents on one of our files. I'll try and find a birth or death record.
