Robert was born about 1806 in Charlotte County, Virginia to Henry and Mary Foster Evans Hines. He married Susan Forkner on November 11, 1833 in Surry County, North Carolina. Their home was west of Mt Airy at W Lebanon & 52 Bypass. Robert and Susan had thirteen childrern.
Susan died at the age of 48 in 1864 the next year, Stoneman's Army (6,000 men) marched through Surry and Mt Airy.
Robert died at the home of his son, Rev Robert Bentley Hines in Mt Airy at the age of 86. Robert and Susan are buried at Salem United Methodist Church, Ward's Gap.
