Charles Hinton was born 20 December 1826 in Kentucky. His parents are unknown at the time of this writing. His occupation was teamster, and I have wondered if he did long-distance hauling for a company in his early career but have no proof. On 26 July 1852 he married young widow, Lydia Margaret Fleener Miller, in Rush, Indiana. They were the parents of 9 children (7 Known, 2 died between censuses). The seven known children were: Sarah, William, Mary, John, Missouri, Alice, and Charles Hinton. Charles and Lydia lived in Indiana until sometime between 1862 and 1870 when they relocated to Marshall, Saline, Missouri. He died there on 3 October 1906 and is buried there at Ridge Park Cemetery.
