Bessie Elizabeth (Hitchcock) Morgan (1873 - 1941)

On the evening of March 12, 1941 son Ernest visited his ailing mother. He and his family lived across the road from his parent's home where he grew up. Bessie told Ernest to come back the next day and she and his father Nelson Morgan would tell him about their families' histories. Ernest never got to hear the story his mother meant to tell him. We know her father Freeman Hitchcock was born in Fabius, Onondaga County, N.Y in 1828 on his parents homestead. His parents both died when he was a young boy. He and his brother Horace were taken in by his older sister's family as they petitioned Onondaga County for custody. It is not known where Freeman's father Shadrach Hitchcock was born or who his parents were. His father's brother Jeremiah Hitchcock and family lived on a homestead next door.
