Joseph Hitchcock was born 28 June 1788 in Westminster, Windham, Vermont.^[1][2] He was the son of Elisha and Ursula Hitchcock.

He was married to Betsey Prentice on 10 May 1808 in Westminster, Vermont.^[3]
