Biography

Jacob Hite lived in what is now Jefferson Co WV, which until 1772 was a part of Frederick Co. In 1772 this place in Frederick became part of Berkeley Co & Jacob wanted his settlement near Leetown, made the county seat. Martinsburg was instead designated and Hite moved to South Carolina. He and his family were murdered by Indians not long after reaching South Carolina.

Lineage

Jacob Hite (son of Jost Hite and Anna Maria Merckle) was born 1719 in Perkiomen, Chester County, Pennsylvania; died July 1, 1776 in Frederick, Virginia; married Catherine O'Bannon (daughter of Bryan B. and Sarah O'Bannon) 1733 in Dublin, Ireland.

Jacob Hite and Catherine O'Bannon had the following children:

(i) John Hite was born 1748 in Dublin, Ireland; died 1777; married Sarah ______, born in Baltimore, Maryland. Sarah's last name is not given by "Shenandoah Valley Pioneers", but this profile earlier showed Nichols, It likely was Cotter.

They had three children:
(1) Mary Hite.
(2) Sarah Hite.
(3) Catherine Hite, born in Winchester, Virginia.

(ii) Thomas Hite was born 1750; died 1776; married Frances Madison Beale on November 10, 1772, born October 1, 1749.

They had two children:
(1) Frances Madison Hite, born October 4, 1774, died July 27, 1851;
(2) James Hite, born October 6, 1776, died 1855.

(iii) Jacob O'Bannon Hite born 1752 in Fauquier County, Virginia, died 1778 in South Carolina.

(iv) Mary Hite born 1754 in Fauquier County, Virginia; died 1806 in Maryland; married (1) Nathaniel Manning; married (2) Rev. Busby.

(v) Elizabeth Hite.
