Brother of Maria, John, Phillip, David, William, and Abraham Marshall Hitsman.
Tiffany Hitsman was born in Ontario, Canada, the son of Benjamin & Elizabeth Hitsman.
He Married Emily "Emma" Lanway in January of 1859 in DeKalb, St. Lawrence Co., New York.
He enlisted in the Union Army 0n the 12 of August 1862 and was in Company C of the 106th Regiment of the New York Volunteers, Infantry. He was discharged from the military on 24th of March 1864. (Note: He enlisted as Tiffany Hitchman)
HITCHMAN, TIFFANY.—Age,30 years. Enlisted, August 12, 1862, at De Kalb, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. C, August 27, 1862; discharged for disability,,March 24, 1864.[1]
In 1865 he brought his family to Minnesota and had a farm near the town of Independance. Sometime in the 1890's he moved his family to Delano, about 5 miles from his farm. His wife , Emma , died on 11th of March 1903 and he sold his farm shortly after her death. Both Tiffany and Emma, and two of their sons are buried in the Delano Cemetery.
Tiffany was preceded in death by wife, Emma Lanway.
Tiffany's Obituary is in The Delano Eagle dated Thursday Augest 29, 1918 and reads as follows:
Tiffany Hitsman died last Saturday evening, Aug. 24, after a long and lingering illness of over a period of seven years, at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 8 days. During the past four years he was also was afficted with total blindness. The funeral was held from the M.E. church, Tuesday, at two o'clock, a large number of relatives and friends being in attendance. The Rev. C. E. Hart, conducted the services, Interment was made in riverside cemetery. Mr. Hitsman is another pioneer who has answered the call. He settled on some land about four miles southeast of Delano, in Hennepin county, when all this vast territory was known only as the big woods. A little over twenty-five years ago he moved to Delano and for a number if years lived on North Third street. After the death of his wife, which occured in 1903, he sold his property and purchased his late home on Franklin avenue. Four sons and three daughters survive. These are: Benjamin, Abe, of Washington, William, of St. Paul, and Charles; Mrs. D.W. Briley (Nellie), Cedar, Mrs. W.W. Palm (Georgia), Portland; Mrs. Emma Jack, also of Portland. Those from out of town who attend the funeral were, Mrs. Briley of Cedar, Benjamin Hitsman and Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Hitsman and children of St. Paul.

Tiffany Hitsman is my great grandfather.
His father, Benjamin Hitsman, was in the War of 1812 and his grandfather, Henrich Hitzman was in the Revolutionary War.
Tiffany enlisted in the Union Army on Aug 12, 1862 under the name of Tiffany Hitchman and was mustered out on MAr 24, 1864. Tiffany was 5 ft. 11 inches with dark eyes, black hair and a dark complexion. He came to Minnesota in 1864.
