John Hoadley migrated to New England in 1639, settling at Guilford.[1]R. D. Smith in his article "Francis Bushnell of Guilford, Conn. and His Descendants" says Hoadley crossed the Atlantic on the same ship as Francis Bushnell; probably the Planter sailing on April 1635 which year conflicts with Anderson's "Great Migration Directory..." and also that Hoadley signed the same Plantation Covenant at that time.[2]Susan Hardman Moore in her book "Abandoning America..." says John Hoadley sailed with Henry Whitfield's company in 1639 and like the others who sailed at that time, Hoadley was probably from Kent, Surrey or Sussex. Hoadley was one of the original seven church members at Guilford.[3]
R. D. Smith says "On the voyage, his grandson, the famous Bishop Benjamin Hoadley, says he 'accidently met with' Sarah Bushnell, a daughter of Francis, whom he afterwards married."[2]He married Sarah Bushnell on July 14, 1642 at Guilford, Connecticut Colony.[4]Sarah Bushnell probably baptized November 26, 1625 at Horsted, co. Sussex, England and emigrated with her father.[5]
Mary Walton Ferris in Vol. 2 page 165 of "Dawes-Gates Ancestral Lines" says the couple were probably married at Guilford on July 14, 1642 and had five children with the eldest born on September 29, 1643.[5]
John Hoadley returned permanantly to England in 1653[1]his family remaining in Guilford. He joined Cromwell's forces in Scotland, arriving at Leith on June 29, 1654 and becoming chaplain to the Edinburgh garrison. William Leete wrote a letter to Samuel Desborough in Scotland on October 10, 1654 asking him to show "love and helpfulnesse to poore brother Hodley . . . he was my constant Nocturnal Associate, whom I dearely miss." By the time of the letter, Hoadley had requested his wife and children join him.[3]
At the restoration, John Hoadley left Scotland and began living at Rolvenden in Kent in August of 1662. He died there on June 28, 1668.[3]

I see John Hoadley in the Great Migration Directory, migrating by 1639; making him eligible to be in the PGM project. Also since he later left, he is in PGM Beyond New England Sub-project.
I'll add the project box, sticker, and put him in the maintenance profile.
Please update this profile, if you will. Thanks.
