Biography

Virginia was supposedly the daughter of a Vincent Hobbs, but she cannot be the daughter of the Vincent Hobbs born 1720 in England. According to the corrected DAR record of Vincent Hobbs, Vincent Jr. died without issue.

"(3) Jacob Blubaugh Olinger (son of Christopher and Eve) was born May 20, 1787 in August county, Virginia. Jacob married about 1808 in Russell County, Virginia, Hannah Hobbs, and according to Mrs. J. A. Youell's records, she was a daughter of Vincent Sr. and Mary Hannah (Shelby) Hobbs. On September 29, 1817 James Hobbs Sr. and Rachel his wife, and Jacob Olinger and Hannah his wife, all of Russell County, conveyed 130 acres of land lying in Russell County to William Necessary for $300. It is possible that "Hannah Hobbs" was the daughter of James Sr, rather than the daughter of Vincent Sr. In all records found relating to the family of Vincent Hobbs Sr., "Hannah" is not mentioned as one of the daughters of Vincent and Mary. James Hobbs Sr. was a son of Vincent Sr. and was on the frontier for several years in which time Vincent Sr. sold the land of his son James, thinking that he was dead. An account of this was first found in the Court records of Augusta County several years ago by the writer. After the sale of the land in Russell County, Jacob Olinger left Virginia and went to Missouri and settled in Chariton. Evidently the James Hobbs family also left Virginia." [1]

Other trees have her as the daughter of Solomon Hobbs and Nancy Black and that appears to be the case based on DNA matches with other descendants of Solomon and Nancy.
