On Tuesday 6 June 1848, at Hokianga by Rev John Warren, the Rev William Kirk, to Emma, eldest daughter of Rev John Hobbs, senior Wesleyan Missionary of the Hokianga District.

A Wellington telegram states that Mrs Emma Kirk, wife of the Rev. William Kirk of Petone, the oldest Wesley an minister (retired) in New Zealand, died at Petone yesterday, aged 78. The deceased was a daughter of the Rev. John Hobbs (who came to the Colony in 1823), and was born at the mission station in the Bay of Islands in 1828.

She is buried at Old Taita Cemetery [2] [3].
