Biography

James Alvin Hodgkins was born in 1874 to Chipman Malengthen Hodgkins and Sarah Ellen Lowe.

He married twice: first, in 1900, to Laura Eliza "Georgie" Sweeting with whom he had son James Herman Hodgkins; and second, in 1906, to Georgiana Susan Lowe. Georgiana Susan and Alvin had children Ronald Charles, Harold Jeremiah, Nellie Isabel, Richard Gustave and Lionel Hodgkins.

James Hodgkins passed away in 1957 in Green Turtle Cay at 82 years of age.

James Alvin Hodgkins was born in Green Turtle Cay, Abaco. Bahamas.

In his early years he would go on trips collecting sponges.

He was a carpenter, he built and repaired boats.

He had a farm on the mainland of Abaco, called Sand Banks. They grew canes, and made delicious cane syrup. They made ropes from sisal, that they grew on the farm.

They lived part time on the farm, and part time on Green Turtle Cay.

He had a stroke and died in Jan 1957 at Green Turtle Cay. Abaco.
