Biography

"William Goodall and Jane Hodgson. They were married on 26 Apr 1836 in Morgan CO IL. She was 24 and he was 41. As far as I know it was the 1st marriage for both. Both had immigrated (together?) from Seamer, Yorkshire, England which is near Scarborough (remember the Simon and Garfunkel song?) I have found quite a bit about Jane's ancestors but nothing on William (too many Goodalls in the area) They had likely known each other before immigrating but we have no proof of that. They would spent the rest of their lives in Morgan CO IL. 10 children were born to them between 1838 and 1859 including my great-grandmother, Sarah Goodall Pratt. All but one of the 10 lived to adulthood. They had 33 years together before William died. Jane lived another 22 years dying at age 80 in 1891." by Mary Lay-Stephenson

"Jane Hodgson Goodall. She was born on this date in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England (yes the Scarborough of "Are you going to Scarborough Fair?") to Christopher and Mary Russel Hodgson. She was the 5th of 12 siblings and the 4th of 4 daughters. She was baptized 27 Oct 1811 in Seamer (which is near Scarborough) and grew up near there. ^[1] She immigrated to Illinois about 1835 and married William Goodall there on 23 Apr 1836. They spent their entire married life farming near Yatesville, Morgan, Illinois. 4 daughters and 6 sons were born to them between 1838 and 1859. William died in 1869 leaving Jane to finish raising the younger children on her own. She lived until 28 Dec 1891" by Mary Lay-Stephenson
