"Death of Adam Hofer 1821-1891
"As the days speed on, each week we are called upon to announce the demise of some one or more among the early settlers of the country about us. In our last issue we made brief mention of the death of Adam Hofer, of this (Boardman) township, who, after a brief illness, died February 17th, in the 71st year of his age. Mr. Hofer was born at Oensbach, Baden, Germany, Dec 24th, 1821. He came to Freeport, Ill., where on Nov. 1st, 1854 he was united in marriage to Walburger Doll. One month later he came to Clayton county, where he resided until his death. His wife died March 28th, 1883. Two married sons, Edward and Frank, are the surviving members of the family. The funeral took place on Friday last and was largely attended by sorrowing friends of the deceased."
