Biography

Lloyd was born in 1873 on his family's farm in Bone Creek near Auburn, WV, the last child of John Hoff and Elizabeth Ann Gaston. He grew up in Ritchie County, dropping out of school without completing high school. By 1900 he was working as an attendant in the Weston State Hospital for the Insane (at the same time that his older sister Rosa was a patient there). He was also reported to be a teacher. He married Emma C. Rinehart in 1901 in Cairo, WV and returned to farming, settling down in the Goose Creek, WV area (Cairo, Petroleum) where Emma's family was from. After losing a first stillborn child, the couple had three children together. He died from heart disease at the age of 83 in 1956 in Cairo, WV and is buried with his wife in Terry Cemetery in Glendale, WV.
