Eleanor Holand was the illegitimate daughter of Edmund Holland, 4th Earl of Kent (1382-1408) and Constance of York (c1374-1416).[1][2] [3]

She died c. 1459.[1]

Research Notes

The following passage from Richardson's Royal Ancestry needs to be reviewed with relevant information abstracted and added to the biography as appropriate.[6]

JAMES TUCHET (or AUDLEY) Knt. He married (1st) MARGARET ROOS (or ROS). He married (2nd) ELEANOR HOLAND, illegitimate daughter of Edmund Holand, K.G., Earl of Kent, by Constance, daughter of Edmund of Langley, K.G., Duke of York (5th son of King Edward III of England). They had three sons, Humphrey, Knt., Edmund [Bishop of Rochester, Bishop of Hereford, Bishop of Salisbury, Chancellor of the Order of the Garter], and Thomas, and three daughters, Margaret (wife of Richard Grey, Knt., Lord Powis [died 1466] and Roger Vaughan, Knt. [died 1471], Anne (wife of Richard Delabere, Knt.), and Constance. In 1431 Margaret, Duchess of Clarence, Joan, Duchess of York, and others petitioned Parliament complaining that Eleanor being illegitimate calls herself the "daughter and heir" of Edmund Holand. Eleanor brought action in Court Christian to disprove her bastardy, but lost her suit. SIR JAMES TUCHET (or AUDLEY), 5th Lord Audley, was defeated and slain at the Battle of Blore Heath, Shropshire 23 Sept. 1459, in command of the Lancastrian forces.[6]

  2. Eleanor's birth around 1406[1] would appear that Constance had the affair with Edmund before he married Lucia on 24 January 1406.[2] Constance's husband had died in 1400.

[1] 1406 according to Wikipedia. Richardson's Magna Carta Ancestry implies Eleanor's birth was closer to 1400:

"...Sir Thomas le Despenser, Earl of Gloucester, 5th Lord le Despenser, was beheaded at Bristol 16 Jan. 1399/1400, and was buried at Tewkesbury Abbey. Because of her kinship with the king, his widow, Constance, was treated with great generosity. She was granted the greater part of her husband's lands for life and given custody of their son and heir, Richard. About this time she was allegedly betrothed to marry Edmund Holand, K.G., 4th Earl of Kent, by whom she had a daughter, Eleanor Holand. ... It is doubtful that this betrothal, if valid, ever resulted in marriage. In Feb. 1405, Constance..." (p 77)

update: since I posted this, Magna Carta Project developed "non-badge" project boxes, so that project has now been added as a manager to support PPP.

Hi! I was going through my watchlist to make sure PPP profiles were supported by a project. I got England Project's ok to add them to ones I think need to retain PPP & England Project would be best. THEN I realized many were on my watchlist because I'm on the trusted list, but not a manager.

OK if I make myself a manager and add England Project also?

If not, post a comment to let me know (or remove PPP, or add a different project box/account).

Thanks!

I have now removed PPP, and the Magna Carta Project as profile manager. Pre-1500 controls will help to safeguard the last name.

fyi - I had an objection, so I've taken her off my "to-do list". Cheers, Liz

If no objections, I'd like to redo the biography section to be less confusing, to include deleting info about merges/gedcoms & Ancestry/LDS sources. Let me know. Thanks!
