Biography

Robert Holbrook ... [1]

Robert was a Chemical Engineer, graduated from the University of Buffalo with a BS in Organic Chemistry, and MS from the University of Cincinnati in Chemical Engineering; employed for 25 years by Olin Corp, presently responsible for Production Market Development and Marketing Director of Applied Chemicals. He and his wife, Jean Elizabeth Tyler Holbrook lived in Buffalo, NY, MD, NJ and presently in Wilton, CN. He is a tall, athletic man, a deep humanist.

Robert L. Holbrook Obituary:

Robert L. “Bob” Holbrook, age _89_, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Wilton, CT and Southbury, CT died peacefully in his sleep early Sunday, July 31, 2016 at NHC Healthcare in South Carolina.
Mr. Holbrook was born on February 5, 1927 in Auburn, NY, the son of the late Wesley Albert Holbrook and Jennie Dorothy Holness Holbrook. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy, stationed aboard the USS Kearsarge as a Fireman 1st Class. Following his military service he pursued his formal education, attending Syracuse University and earning his B.S. from Buffalo University. He continued at the University of Cincinnati where he earned a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He then began his career with Olin Corporation, retiring after 37 years and procuring many patents during his tenure of service. One notable technical and managerial accomplishment was his responsibility for the construction and operation of a chemical plant which produced dimethyl hydrazine which is the rocket fuel of choice for 'in space' maneuvering of spacecraft. This fuel was and is used by NASA for Mercury, Apollo, Shuttle, Space Station and other current spacecraft. Following retirement he started his own consulting firm, Chemsult, continuing to live the American dream.
Outside of work he enjoyed coaching the little league and Lucy league teams his children played for in Wilton, CT. He also served as the President of the Men’s Golf Association at Heritage Country Club in Southbury. He can proudly say he had his hole in one at Darien CC in Connecticut. He was active in a leadership role with the SCORE Association in Waterbury, CT and continued to participate in Hilton Head, SC.
He was a talented duplicate bridge player achieving a bronze life master status in tournament bridge (American Contract Bridge League) achieved in the Hilton Head and Okatie Creek Bridge Clubs.
Mr. Holbrook was preceded in death by his spouse of 43 years, Jean Elizabeth Holbrook who was a dedicated and creative mother of the four Holbrook children. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Connie Lynn Holbrook; sons, David Scott Holbrook (wife Jeannie), Brian Robert Holbrook, and Russell W. Holbrook; daughter, Leslie J. Holbrook; step-sons, Matthew A. Archambault (wife Christin) and Mark W. Archambault (wife Laurie); grandchildren, Robert, Dennis, Daniel, Jenny, Hayley, Hannah, Cooper, Carley, and Kelly; step-grandchildren, Kely, Elise, Shae, and Tate; and great-grandchildren, Lydia and Blake.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday,August 6, 2016 with viewing at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church off exit 14 I-84 in Southbury, CT.
Final services and burial will take place in Oxford, CT under the direction of Carpino Funeral Home. Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton is also assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
