Caroline Holbrook was born in New York in about 1838.
She married William G. Chandler. The 1860 U.S. Census recorded William G. Chandler, 30 years old and born in Georgia, in Mobile, Alabama, with Carrie H. Chandler, age 22 and born in New York, and St. John H. Chandler, age 1 and born in Alabama. William was a merchant who had personal estate valued at $15,000.[1]
She was the mother of Florence Elizabeth Chandler and the wife of William G. Chandler, a partner in the banking firm of St. John Powers and Company, and at one time mayor of Mobile, Alabama. Her husband died in 1862, and Caroline Chandler Du Barry, née Holbrook, remarried a third time in 1872 to Baron Adolph von Roques, a cavalry officer in the Eighth Cuirassier Regiment of the German Army.
