Miss Catherine Holden, 75, 308 N. Talley Ave., retired Muncie school teacher, died early Tuesday morning in Ball Hospital. A native of Muncie, she spent most of her life here. She received her B.S. from Ball State in 1929 and her M.A. in 1945.
Miss Holden was a teacher in Muncie Community Schools 41 years prior to her retirement in 1965. She taught at Jackson, Whittier, Harrison, Blaine, and Jefferson Schools. She was a teacher in the Garfield summer program for many years ago and she also conducted a summer program for 12 years at St. Mary's before the St. Mary's School opened.
Miss Holden served St. Mary's as an organist and sacristan for many years and was a teacher in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes held for Catholic children attending public schools. She was a member of Altar and Rosary Society, Retired Teachers of Delaware County, administrative Women of Muncie Community Schools, and Delaware County Historical Society.
Surviving are several cousins including Sister Alma Rose and Sister Julia, both of St. Mary's of the Woods, Terre Haute; Robert Gallen, Indianapolis; Mary Sullivan, Springfield, Ohio; and Michael Sullivan, Westerville, Ohio.
Msgr. E.J. Cyr and Father Patrick Kohl will concelebrate the Mass of the Resurrection at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Thursday. Interment will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Meeks Mortuary from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Rosary will be recited at the mortuary at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
