Emma Holden was born 7 Nov 1857 to parents John and Ann Holden.


1857 November 7, Emma Holden was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland England, to John and Ann Holden. [1] [2]

1858 Apr 14, baptism of Emma Holden at Saint Nicholas, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumblerland, England. Parents named as John & Ann Holden. [3] Emma was presumably named after her sister Emma Caroline Holden who died in 1857.

1871 England Census at Islington, Liverpool, Lancashire, England has her father John Holden age 55 head of house, occupation Proprietor of Marionette Exhibition. Ann Holden wife age 48. John Holden son age 29 (with wife Maria and her sister Louisa). James Holden son age 11. Emma Holden daut age 12. Anna M Holden daut age 1. Elizabeth Wright (nee Holden) daut age 20. with her husband Thomas Wright age 26, and their son Thomas Wright age 1. Catherine and John Lofthouse age 29 & 34 visitors. [4]

1877 Oct death of mother Ann (Yelding) Holden at Liverpool, Lancashire, England.

1881 England Census at Battersea, London, England has an Emma Holden working as a general servant for a Marsh family who own a Grocery Shop. [5]

1891 England Census for 5 Fentiman Road, Vauxhall, Lambeth has Emma Holden single, sister, age 34, living with her widowed brother John Holden age 49 occupation "Own Means", and his daughters Maria Louisa Holden age 21, and Ada Holden age 16. [6]

1897 July, death of brother John at Chorlton, Lancashire, England.

1898 - 1st January, passenger ship 'Clyde' incoming to Southampton Britain from America and Brazil has a Walter Nash age 25yrs (s/b 21yrs) with an Emma Nash age 31yrs (s/b 40yrs). According to the marriage document they didn't get married until March, so once again Walter appears to be up to his old shenanigans. (Emma's actual surname is 'Holden' and also on the passenger list are her brother James Holden 39yrs, his wife Agnes Holden 43yrs). All have the occupation "Artisti" as the Holden family ran a travelling puppet show known as "Holden's Mechanical Marionettes Pantomime" . [7]

1898 - Mar 10, at the British Consulate in Palermo, Sicily - marriage between Emma Holden, age 35 (s/b 40) spinster, theatrical artiste, (father John Holden, glass worker), and Walter Nash, age 21, bachelor, stage carpenter, (father Walter Nash, wood sawyer). The couple's address is Bellini Theatre, Palermo, Sicily. [8]

1900 - Sep 30 birth of son William Ernest Nash at Newington, London, England.

1901 - England and Wales census 1901 has Emma Nash age 35yrs living with her husband Walter Nash age 24yrs and their son William Nash under 1yr, at 65 De Laure Street, Newington, St Saviour Southwark, London.

1903 Jan, death of father John Holden at Epsom, Surrey, England.

1903 - Feb 18 birth of son Walter Henry Nash at Kennington, London. Walter died in June the same year.

1903 - 1909 - Desertion - sometime during this period husband Walter Ernest Nash deserts wife Emma and son William Ernest Nash and begins living with Annie Boon. Walter and Emma did not divorce, and Walter and Annie Boon did not marry.

1939 1939 Register at Gateshead, Durham, England has Emma Nash, married, born 7 Nov 1857, occupation retired Showwoman. (In 1939 son William Ernest Nash is living with his wife and daughter in Shildon, Durham).

1942 - Jun, death of estranged husband Walter Ernest Nash at Lambeth, Greater London.

1942 - Jun, there is a death registered for Emma Nash, at Newcastle Under Lyme, Staffordshire, England. [9]
