Biography
Charlie Francis Holden was born in 1890 in Godalming, Surrey. He was the son of Francis Holden and Julia Maria (Quant) Holden and his birth was registered in the final quarter of the year, in Guildford district.[1][2]
At the time of the 1911 census, Charlie was a Bootmaker Assistant and was in Godalming with his parents.[2]
Charlie served in the army in the First World War. He was a private in the 2nd Royal Sussex Regiment. He was wounded at the Battle of Loos on 25 Sep 1915, and died on 10 Oct 1915,[3][4] aged 25, at King George's Hospital, London SE. He was buried on 13 Oct 1915 in Nightingale Cemetery, Godalming, in the consecrated section. His parents' address was given in the military records as 36, Milton Rd., Bournemouth, Hampshire.
