Biography

Private Daniel Holder served with Pittsylvania County Militia, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

Daniel Holder is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A057047.

Daniel Holder was born in April, 1755, in Prince William county, Virginia. During the American Revolutionary War, Daniel enlisted as a Private in the military. He served under Captain Isaac Clemons, Captain Spencer Shelton, and Captain Peter May, under the command of Colonel Falkner and General Stevens.[1]

Daniel was named in his father's Will on 6 October 1784 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.[2]

Daniel and his wife, Ruth A. Welborn, made their home first in Pittsylvania county, Virginia and then in the Union District of South Carolina, where he died April 23, 1843. Daniel is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A057047. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his daughter, Amy Welborn Holder, who married William Smith Walker.[3]

Research Notes

Birth

According to DAR records, Daniel was born in April, 1758. The inscription on his headstone indicates he died April 23, 1843, in the 88th year of his life. Calculating his birth from his headstone would give him a year of birth as 1755, which matches his Find A Grave memorial. Daniel is buried in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Union county, South Carolina. There is a photograph of his headstone on his Find A Grave memorial.[4]
