William D Holder was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia as indicated in records from his service in the Confederacy during the Civil War.

In the 1850 census, he was listed as living with his parents, John Holder and Permelia Cox Holder in Pittsylvania Co, Virginia.

He married Christina Owens on 31 Jan 1856 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia and in the referenced marriage register from the Bureau of Vital Statistics, both sets of parents were also listed.

In the 1860 census, he is living near John and Permelia in the Southern District, Pittsylvania Co., VA, 5 houses away, with his wife Christina. The 1880 census record in Surry Co, NC lists wife Christina as ‘divorced’ While she is listed as married in the 2000 census record in Surry Co, NC.

He died in 1901 In North Carolina. This was taken from the referenced confederate pension record although the record is transcribed as him having died in North Florence but from reviewing the image and census records, it was North Carolina.

Children of William and Christina were: Willis N Holder, Phebe A Holder, Nancy J Holder, John W Holder, Virginia F Holder, Sarah E Holder and Hubbard D Holder, based on census records, death records and grave markers.

I’m a descendant through the Willis N Holder/Nancy Jane Williamson line and have had my DNA tested through Ancestry if it can help anyway with the Holder DNA project.
