Wiley Holder was apparently an itinerant singing teacher. Dewey Lincoln Minton was the son of Alva Aresena Minton
Dewey Minton's living descendants know very little about he and Vernon's father, and therefore. Confusingly, there were apparently two Wiley Holder's born in NC within a year of each other. Wiley A Holder, Wilkes County, and another listed in a death record from Broadway, NC (near Raleigh). The Wilkes County WIley Holder was born 6 Aug 1877, while the Broadway Wiley Holder was born 20 Jun 1878. As Dewey and Vernon were raised by their grandparents, Purvis and Manerva, in Miller's Creek, the Wilkes County Wiley Holder (known only by his gravestone) seems to be the mostly likely match.
Two patron-submitted entries in FamilySearch shows a record of a Wiley Alexander Holder, husband of Lena Mary Minton son of Amanda Nichols and John Holder. Wiley has a birth and death date that match the Wilkes County Wiley Holder from Find A Grave. Knowing the close relationship between the Nichols and Minton family, this is a promising lead, but unfortunately no source is given for this information.
Possibly son of John Holder and Amanda Nichols. Census of 1880 lists an Alexander Holder in their household in Wilkes County who is the about the right age. Census of 1850 has an Amanda Nicholds of the right age also in Wilkes County.
