Biography

Catherine Hollingsworth, daughter of Jacob Hollingsworth and Lydia Welch. She was b. 12 July 1807 and m. 29 March 1838, Dempsey Powell Satterwhite.

Catherine's Headstone located: For years, Catherine's headstone was missing, but in 1990 it was located by family members stacked with some other abandoned headstones. Unfortunately, it had broken into three pieces. The pieces were placed together on the ground for the headstone picture (See photo). The name "Catherine" can easily be made out at the top of the headstone. It is assumed that she is buried next to her husband Dempsey Powell Satterwhite.

Daughter of Jacob Hollingsworth (1774-1836) and Lydia Welch (1780-1870) of Burke County, Ga. Jacob and Lydia moved their family to Dallas County, Alabama in 1817. Their daughter Catherine grew-up near historic Old Cahaba where she later married Dempsey Powell Satterwhite (1815-1898) on Mar 29, 1838 (See Alabama record of Marriage in this memorial). Dempsey was the son of Paul Satterwhite (1795–1858) and Catherine "Kittie" Powell (1797-1873) also of Clarke County, Georgia and living in Alabama in the late 1830s. Apparently the Hollingsworths were acquainted with the Satterwhites back in Georgia.

Dempsey and Catherine moved to Arkansas shortly after their marriage and eventually settled near Taylor, Nevada County where Dempsey was a farmer and merchant. He also had relatives in the vicinity. In her later years, Kittie, Dempsey's mother lived with them in Arkansas until her death in 1873 (See copy of 1870 US census in this memorial). Dempsey and Catherine had the following children:

After Catherine Hollingsworth's death in 1884, Dempsey married Flora J Fillyaw (1825-1890). After the death of Flora J, Dempsey married Sidney Elizabeth Huntley (The widow Mrs Prim) in 1891 at the age of 75. Dempsey died in 1898 and is buried in this (Mt. Olive Cemetery), Nevada County, Arkansas (Memorial # 13577801).
