Biography

Lydia was born about 1859. Lydia Hollopeter ...

There were married in the year 1879. Their church affilication was Baptist.

1880 census. I found Thomas B. Brooks and Lydia with Minnie B. 1879 and Frank B. 1874 Honey Creek Township, IA. [1]

1900 census. Blackhawk Co., East Waterloo Township, IA. Mother of 10 6 living. Bertha (1881), Rose (1882), Howard (1885), Lottie (1890, Thomas (1892), John C. (1894) [2] <Cathryn's note: The last statement is not correct. The 1900 census lists Lydia the mother on 10 children 7 living and Jane as mother of 4 children with 4 living. Who were Jane's children? Where are they listed? See link to 1900 census below.>

The 1910 census lists one more child, Lester Hollopeter (1898). Jane Hollopeter was listed as the sister-in-law. She was the mother of four children with three living. Lydia enjoyed smoking a corncob pipe.

Together the sisters had a Laundry Business in their home at 712 N. Barclay and Adams Street in Waterloo, IA. Jane also took on the task of being the seamstress, mending and doing needed repairs, sewing on needed buttons. Some of the family is supposed to still live there today on Barclay Street as then did in 1900.

In 1926, Lydia was in a car with her daughter Lottie which was driven by Art Kline. He was intoxicated and got into a car crash. Lydia subsequently died of the injuries she sustained in the accident.
