Biography

John Holloway was born 8 Aug 1736 in Somerset County, Maryland , son of John Holloway and Frances Bradford. [1]

He served in the Revolutionary War for the state of Maryland. [2]

He married Rachel Long in Worcester Maryland about 1765.[3]

He named 5 children in his will written on 1 April 1787 in Worcester County Maryland. He died before it's probate on 5 March 1789. "Will of John Holloway. To John Schoolfield, 100 acres of Friend's Assistance. To daughters Eby Holloway and Mary Holloway. To sons David Holloway, John Holloway, Icried Holloway. Armwell Long and John Dennis, the Execs.. Wit; John Tull, John Walter, who is now deceased, Samuel Davis, who is now deceased." EX Armwell Long was the brother of John's wife Rachel. She was not mentioned in his will and Armwell refused its administration (reason unclear). It is also unclear if Rachel died before John wrote his will.

Research Notes

Confusion reigns about the suffixes used to identify the early John Holloways of Somerset County (later Worcester), Maryland and Sussex County, Delaware. Identification is best made by birth date and/or parentage.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Holloway-3984 and Holloway-1014 do not represent the same person because: Just documenting that these John Holloways born about the same year were distinct individuals for future travelers.
