Eliza Helon Holloway is the second child of Major Daniel Holloway and Jane Penny of North Carolina. She was born February 28, 1843 in Wake County, NC. The Holloway family stayed in the Wake Co. NC area where her father was a blacksmith and farmed.
Eliza married John C. Flowers on August 5, 1873 in Wake Co., North Carolina at the age of 30. The couple resided in Wake Co. NC area near Eliza's family. The 1880 Census indicates that John (31) and Eliza (37) have two children - William (5) and Tennie (4). We know the couple has lost a twin son at birth.
The couple left Durham in 1881 to move to Tennessee where they lived in Henderson (1900 Census) and Decatur (1910 Census) counties. Both of these census list John as a carpenter and Eliza keeping house.
Helon Flowers (pronounced HEE-LON) died February 25, 1914 at the age of 70. She is buried in Union Cemetery, Chesterfield, Tennessee.[1]
