Biography

Henrietta Holloway was born in 1853 in North Carolina. She is the daughter of Major Daniel Holloway and Jane Penny. She grew up in the Oak Grove area of Wake Co., North Carolina. Her mother, Jane Penny, died when she was about 7 years old.

Henrietta married George W. Rochelle on January 10 1878 in Wake Co., North Carolina. She was 24 years old. The couple had two sons - Sidney (b.1878) and Thomas (b.1879). She married a 2nd time to Amos Wesley Edwards on August 13, 1910.

The 1880 Census has the couple living in Oak Grove, Wake Co., NC. George (30), Henrietta (26), Sidney E (2) and Thomas M (age 5 months -born in Jan.). Two boarders live with them. The family farms and lives near Henrietta's brother, William Holloway. Likely this is land inherited from Henrietta's father, Major Daniel Holloway.

Durham City Directories indicate that the family moved into Durham by 1887. The 1900 US Census shows them still living in Durham where George is a Fish Dealer. They rent a house. A census question indicates that Henrietta has bore 2 children and only 1 is living. This means that Thomas died sometime between the 1880 and 1900 Census. According to T. Hildenbrandt's journal pages, she stayed with Sidney and his wife during her visit to Durham in May 1947.

Buried in Rochelle Family burial grounds about 5 miles East of Durham. Glenn, Rochelle-Carrington Cemetery - Find-a-Grave #159072500[1]
