Biography

He was born about 1639 in Sandwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts and was the son of Rose (Allen) and Joseph Holloway, Sr. [1]

Joseph Holloway, Jr. married about 1657 in Barnstable County, Massachusetts to Mary Hull [2] [3] [4] [5] (1645-1692), daughter of Blanche and Tristram Hull.

In 1658 he received some land in a division of town property.

On 08 Jun 1664 he was sworn as a member of the Grand Enquest for Plymouth’s grand jury. [6]

On 05 Mar 1666 he was granted a letter of administration for his father-in-law's estate. [7]

In 1670 he was one of the constables of Sandwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts. [8]

On 08 March 1670/1 he and Nathaniel FitsRandall were chosen as guardians of Hannah Hull [9] (likely a niece).

In 1671 he took the oath of fidelity in Sandwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.

In 1672 there may have been land disputes with the Indians and Joseph was listed as one of the men appointed to help gather evidence to resolve these disputes.

In 1675 he was listed as a freeman and included on a town list among those men who had a “just right to the privileges of the town”.

In 1681 he made bond for Zachery Allin, who was fined for selling whiskey to the Indians.

In 1681 a few whales were beached and he and a few others started taking parts from the whales. The town records show that everyone agreed the whales belonged to the town and that he was allowed to keep his portion and he paid the town 6 pounds.

In 1682 there were disputes between Barnstable and Sandwich land owners and Joseph was given the duty to make boundary markers. [10]

He died about 1691 in Sandwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.

His estate gave his son Joseph Holloway, III, his double portion of the property (being the eldest son) and he had to pay his siblings some money to balance and settle the estate.

On 05 Sep 1692 five of his children, including Joseph Holloway, III, signed an agreement on the division of their father's estate. [11] [12][13]

His widow Mary lived in Barnstable, Massachusetts until her death in 1692.

His widow Mary Hull survived him and I do not think that he had a second wife called Elizabeth Winslow. Perhaps she married a different Joseph Holloway ?

I agree this wife seems beyond unlikely. Removing marriage to Elizabeth Winslow.

Holley-66 and Holloway-160 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same person,
