Phoebe Holloway Thomas passed away 14 March 1832. Her granddaughter, Sarah Lewis, notes that Phoebe died at her home (Sarah's) on March 14, 1832 of pneumonia. "Grandma was pretty. Her hair was curly and it was white. She was 71 years old"

"James Holloway has been the subject of extensive investigation by L. V. Downs, from whom much of the data in this section comes. His work on early members of this family is well documented. His work on later members of the family is based on extensive contact with member of the families of this line.
"Although Mr. Downs has adduced evidence only for Christa Holloway and Edmund Holloway to show that they are children of James of Pittsylvania County, the authors of this present volume believe that they have strong circumstantial evidence to indicate that all of the children listed in this generation are, indeed, children of James."
