Biography

Major was born in 1804. [1] Major is the child of Bremillion Holloway and Sarah Proctor. YDNA and ADNA results prove this relationship. He passed sometime after the date of the 1880 census. He appears to have been married more than once. [2] .

Incorrect Source

The primary book used for "Vermillion Holloway" is Genealogy of the Holloway Families by Olin Holloway. Unfortunately, Chapter 19 page 331 is not talking about Robert Vermillion Holloway, but his grandson Bremillion Holloway. So 1000+ trees on ancestry.com have incorrect information based on the book. Here is what [page 331] should have read...

  1. Major is living in Rhea County, Tennessee by 1840.[4]
  2. On the 1850 census his wife Phebe and twelve children are in the household with him. [5]
  3. The 1860 census finds him in Rhea County, Tennessee with five of his children still living in his household but no spouse. Phebe must have passed away prior to 1860. [6]
  4. On the 1870 census he is living in Rhea County, Tennessee and is listed as being born 1804-1805 in North Carolina. Living with him appears to be his son along with his wife and children. His son, Isaac Holloway is living with his wife and children next door to them.[7]
