Stephen was born 1796 in TN. He fought in THE WAR OF 1812 and the Seminole Indian War. He enlisted in Knox Co, TN and was a Private in Capt. Davicd Price's Company in the Tn Militia. He received a pension as a result of his service. His soldiers claim NO: 13508 and Soldiers order NO 21247 appears on his documents from the National Archives.
He was a land owner in Lawrence Co, TN in 1818 as shown on the tax list for that year. Stephen and his brother Moses were among the FIRST PIONEERS to settle on the Big Buffalo River. Some families settled on Beeler Fork While our ancestors settled on the Middle Fork. Amonth the pioneers that settled on the Middle Fork was DAVID CROCKETT. Our ancestor Moses Holloway was to serve on the Jury with David in 1818/1823.
Stephen married Margarite___________, maiden name not known, on 15 September 1819 in Humphries Co, TN. By 1820 Stephen had left TN and made his home in Wayne Co, Indiana where three of his children, JOHN, MARTHA AND THEREO (A DAUGHTER) was born. By the year 1850 he had left Indiana and we found him living in Wayne Co, TN living next door to his brother Moses.
Stephen has another son by the of Charles age 10 by this year. He then traveled to Missouri probably because two of his brothers JESSE AND SIDNEY were living there.
On the 13th day of June 1871 in Saclede Co, Missouri, Stephen applied for a further land grant for which he was entitled. Stephens age was listed as 76yrs old, when this application was approved. The Land Deeds book H 1839 TO 1870, page 298, shows Stephen Holloway of Miller Co, Missouri, appointing U.M. Goforth of Wayne Co, TN his power of Attorney.
