Research Notes

Peter is traditionally thought to be the first person buried in Western Cemetery, Messick, Posoquon Co., Virginia.

"It has been told childrens' children that the large sycamore in the Western Cemetery grew from the shipping stick used by the driver of the wagon which bore the coffin to the cemetery; it having been placed in the ground to mark the head of the grave"

It seems peculiar for Peter's last will to have been witnessed in 1767 some forty-one years before his death and before the birth of many of his children. It's plausible, but uncommon for the time period. 1797 seems more likely. This may be a typo carried over from the profile that was uploaded here. A source for the date and transcription of his last will should be added here.
