Biography

Minter Holloway, born about 1783, married Margery Pate, died after 1860 in Pope, Illinois.[1]

Children

Jeremiah H. Holloway, b. abt. 1805 in Blount Co., TN. Died abt 1859 (between 1858 and 1860) in Monroe Co., TN. Married Susan Farmer about 1834. According to Find-A-Grave, she was born 30 Aug. 1804 in TN. But two censuses give her birth as 1817 and a third as 1819. The censuses are probably correct. Susan died 30 May 1889 in Monroe Co., TN. Jeremiah was postmaster in Madisonville, Monroe County.

William Holloway, b. abt. 1806. Married Jane MNU about 1832 in Monroe County. She was born about 1806 in SC. William & Jane were in Blount County for the censuses of 1850 and 1860. Their known children were Drury, Lucretia, Minter, Jacob and John. William & Jane both died after 1860.

John Adams Holloway, b. abt. 1819. Married Mary Jane Sitzler (Sistler) on 11 Aug. 1840 in Monroe County. She was born about 1823 in Indiana. They were in the 1850 census of Monroe County, and then in Pope Co., Illinois for 1860. John lived next door in 1860 to his brother James Matthew Holloway. John & Mary Jane were the parents of known children Ruth, Margaret, James, John K. and Thomas William.

James Matthew "Matt" Holloway, b. 30 May 1822. Married Miranda Triplett on 26 Sep. 1844 in Monroe Co., TN. She was born about 1827 in NC. Matt died 28 Jun. 1897 in Greene County, Missouri. Miranda died after 1900 in Grant, Webster Co., MO. Matthew served as a private in the Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. They were in Webster Co., MO for the 1880 census. They lived next door to their son David. Miranda appears in the 1900 census. James Matthew Holloway is listed on Find-A-Grave.

Ruth Moab Holloway, b. abt. 1824. Married Thomas William Applebury Sistler about 1846 in Monroe County. He was born 5 Feb. 1824 in Indiana. They were in the 1860 Pope Co., IL Census.

It appears that Frances Meador was the grandmother, not the mother, of John Minter Holloway.

I still have problems with Minter Holloway being the father of Jacob M. The proof, prior to 1850 is not there and that census shows Minter's birthplace as Vermont. From what I can see of the information gathered about his family, they came from Virginia.
