Biography

John Holmes, son of Nathaniel Holmes and his wife, Mercy, was born April 17, 1682 at Plymouth, Massachusetts.[1][2] He married Mercy/Marcy/Marsey Ford February 21, 1711 at Plymouth, Massachusetts. [3]

John and Mercy had the following known children born at Plymouth:[4]

  1. Mary, born September 2, 1713
  2. Peleg, born September 28, 1715
  3. Josiah, born December 15, 1716
  4. Jonathan, born August 19, 1719; died December 23, 1726
  5. Marcy, born November 13, 1725
  6. John, born June 22, 1730
  7. Sarah (not mentioned in Mayflower Descendant) birth estimated between 1720 and 1725 based on order in which she was mentioned in John's will)

John Holmes wrote his will on January 26, 1746/7. It was proved on February 6, 1748/49. In it, he mentions his wife [not named], and in the order, he mentions in his will, his sons Peleg and Josiah, daughters Sarah and Marcy (unmarried at the time of his will), son John (underage at the time of his will), and daughter Mary Sturdevant.[5]

His inventory was taken on 24 February 1748/49 in Kingston.
