John Holmes was born on June 22, 1730 in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay. His parents were John Holmes and Mercy Ford.[1]
Came to Edgartown about 1757.[2]
He married Mary Dunham about 1764.[2]
He was a blacksmith by trade, but in later years took up the occupation of a Sound Pilot.[2]
He later removed to Tisbury (Homes Hole) where he died 29 Oct. 1812.[2]
