Biography

Louisa Holmes ^[1] was the second wife of Bright Barefoot. His first wife was Susan "Kitsy" Tart. The last US Census where she is referenced is page 3 of the 1880 US Census for Mingo Township, Sampson County, NC. Her husband, Bright Barefoot, is the last person listed on page 2 while "Louize" is the first person on page 3.

Since the 1890 US Census was lost in fire, one would have to expect her again on the 1900 census, but she does not seem to be there. "Louiser" Holmes Barefoot's grave doesn't offer much help on elucidating her life other than to tell us that she is buried with Bright Barefoot in the Newton Grove, Sampson County, area of North Carolina. "Cemetery notes and/or description: Travel west on NC Hwy 55 toward Dunn from Newton Grove to NC SR 1631. Turn left. Go about 1 mile. The cemetery is on the left past an abandoned house and about 500 feet down a farm path."
