Biography

Flag of Yorkshire (adopted 2008)
Geoffrey (Holmes) Davien was born in Yorkshire, England.

Geoffrey Holmes was the first child of Marian M. Worrall and Garnett Holmes. His birth was registered in the September quarter of 195 at West Derby, Lancashire. [1]

Although he was baptised with the name Geoffrey Garnett Holmes, it seems that later in life he used the middle name Wright, after his stepfather John Wright Davies.

Geoffrey's mother Marian Mildred Holmes married John Wright Davies in 1921 and they formally adopted the two children from their mother's first marriage, Geoffrey Garnett and Dorothy Mildred. It should be noted that he used the name Wright as a middle name at one time in his life.

They lived in Golder's Green, Greater London (also known as Hampstead) for the remainder of their childhood.

Geoffrey Davies changed his name by deed poll to Geoffrey Davien.

(date of name change to be provided later SJB)

He married and had a son and a daughter. Tragically, his son passed away at a fairly young age.

He and his first wife divorced and he married a second time.

He was a sculptor and worked in this field of the arts throughout his life, apart from some time in war service during World War 2.

He passed away at the age of 58 in Surrey, England.

He is survived by his daughter and four grandchildren, all of whom live in England.

(I have deliberately excluded the names of his two wives, children and grandchildren as they may not wish to be identified.)

I treasure these memories as Uncle Geoff was my only Uncle.

Enter a personal reminiscence or story.
Geoffrey Davien (Uncle Geoff) was an English sculptor who passed away at the young age of 58. I remember him with fondness, having met him twice, in 1960 and in 1968. In 1968 we stayed with him and his second wife Shealagh for some time. I stayed in his work room (which doubled as the spare room), full of the sculptures he was working on at the time.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Geoffrey by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Geoffrey:

Hello, Middle Name cannot have "or". Garnett should be the Middle Name in fields at top since that was baptism name. The other middle name is already discussed in the Bio. Thanks, Teresa
