Biography
John Holmes was born in Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, England.
John was born in Hull, Yorkshire, England, on March 25, 1831. He was the son of Thomas Holmes and Elizabeth Barton. He was baptized on May 9, 1831, in Hull, at Holy Trinity Church. He was enumerated in the 1851 census as a twenty year old "Tanner" residing with his parents and four siblings on Anlaby Road, Hull.
John passed away on June 14, 1911. His death was registered in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England. His Probate was administered on August 9, 1911, naming John Denton Holmes, Engineer.
Research Notes
- Although no marriage records were found, it appears John married Henrietta Welch in 1861 possibly in Staffordshire, England. The couple appears to have had at least six children. John was also a Wesleyan Minister.
