Joe J Holmes was born (Estimated) 1849 in Georgia to father Wm D Holmes and mother Martha Culpepper.^[1]

Joseph S Holmes was enumerated at Township 21, Tallapoosa, Tallapoosa County, Alabama for the October 18, United States Census, 1850. He was noted as born 1848 in Georgia as seen in this image of the original census. Also included in the household are male William B Holmes, female Martha Holmes and female Mary E Holmes.^[2]

Joe J Holmes died May 10, 1919 in Minden, Webster Parish, Louisiana. His wife was listed as Nettie Miller.^[1]

Joseph J Holmes is buried at Minden City Cemetery in Minden, Webster Parish, Louisiana, USA, Plot: Section A Southeast.^[3]
