Biography

Descendant of Henry Applewhaite, a Jamestowne Society Qualifying Ancestor.

Arch was the son of John Earl Holmes and Sarah Elizabeth Turner. He married Idella Hansford "Della" Cox 26 Dec 1910, and they had at least seven children: John W Holmes, Georgia Lee Holmes Bullion, Mary Elizabeth Holmes Hurd, Claude Shirley Holmes, Irma Zelle Holmes Shackelford, Ala Mae Holmes McWhorter, and Edna Lon Holmes Morris. They were members of the Methodist church, and Arch sang bass. He also had a rare blood type and was a frequent blood donor. He was was a farmer, a carpenter, and was Sheriff of Baylor County for a time.
