Biography

James 'Allen' Holmes was born in 1860, in Carleton, Kent, New Brunswick, Canada.^[1]

He came to Maine in 1884.

He married Maradis Ida Green (1866-1898) ca. 1885, in Maine. They had 2 children.

1. William Ralford "Ralph" Holmes (1886-1939)
2. Elizabeth Ellen Holmes (1889-1974)

His wife Maradis passed away October 29, 1898 in woodland, Aroostook, Maine, at the age of 32.

He married Dorothy Etta Bragdon (1833-1938) on July 20, 1904 in Portage, Aroostook County, Maine.^[2] They had 7 children.

He was working as a Farm Laborer in 1910, in Portage Lake, Aroostook County, Maine, with his wife Dorothy, and children, Colby-4, Preston-3, and Baby Ray.^[3]

He was retired at age 70, with wife Dorothy working as a servant for a private family in 1930. Ai-18, was a farm laborer, James-13, and Annie-11 were in the home also.^[4]

He died on 1943, at the 83, in Portage Lake, Aroostook County, Maine,^[5] and was buried in the Portage Lake Municipal Cemetery.^[1]
