"Funeral services for James Robert Holt, 78, well known Lee County man were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from Baptist Chapel Church. Rev. C.E. Ruffin, pastor, and Rev. Eugene Tally of Sanford, officiated. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Mr. Holt died Thursday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at his home on Route 2, Sanford. He was born in Chatham County, the son of the late Hilliard and Lizzie Smith Holt and had lived in this section for a number of years. He was a substantial farmer and active in the affairs of his community. Surviving are his wife, the former Sallie Joyner; two sons, Charlie B. Holt of Route 1, Sanford, and James Holt of Route 1, Sanford; six daughters, Mrs. Jones Thomas and Mrs. Susie Thomas of Route 7, Jonesboro Heights Station, Mrs. Atlas Wilson of Route 1, Broadway, Mrs. Glenn Phillips of Sanford, Mrs. Roldie Holt of Route 5, Sanford, Mrs. Joe Thomas of Route 1, Cameron; one brother, W.E. Holt of Route 7, Jonesboro Heights Station; two half-brothers, Wess Holt of Route 5, Sanford, and Frank Holt of Route 4, Sanford; 44 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren."
