Susan A Holt was born about 1850 in Limestone, Alabama, United States, daughter of John William Holt (~1820–~1882) and Lucy Jefferson Newby (~1825–~1916).

Susan married Thomas L Thornton (born in 1842 in Tennessee; son of Leisel Lafate Thornton and Sarah (Austin) Thornton). Their son was Arthur Lawrence Thornton (1872–1947).

In 1880, Susan (29) was living in household of Thomas Thornton (38) in Rockwall, Texas with her husband, Thomas (38); her parents, John (6) and John (24); and Susan Thornton (29), Joseph Thornton (10), Lawrance Thornton (8), Preston Thornton (4), and Farie Thornton (2). [1]
