James Holt was born 11 February 1756 at Orange County, North Carolina. He was the son of Nicholas Holt and Eva Wilheit (1721-1807).
James Holt is named in the 1787 Will of his father, Nicholas Holt, who bequeathed him sixty acres of land adjoining the lands of Henry Loy, Peter Herman, and the Great Alamance [present day Big Alamance Creek, a 37 mile tributary of the Haw River running from Swepsonville thru Alamance County to Lake Mackintosh).[1][2]
He is enumerated on the 1850 Census for Sullivan, Tennessee; thus, he passed after Nov 1850 possibly at Sullivan, Tennessee, United States.
