Biography

DINAH HOLT, b. at Andover, 1710 daughter of George and Elizabeth (Farnum) Holt; d. at Hampton, CT, 12 Jan 1763; m. at Windham, 1 Oct 1730, NATHANIEL FORD, b. at Windham, 3 Jun 1707 son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Hovey) Ford; Nathaniel d. at Hampton, 25 Oct 1779. Nathaniel married second Hannah Brigham on 7 Jul 1763.

Nathaniel Ford did not leave a will and the division of his estate was made 12 September 1780 with two-eights settled on eldest son Amos and one-eighth each to Dinah, Abraham, Jonathan, Phineas, Sarah, and the heirs of daughter Elizabeth deceased. The final accounting of the estate was made by son Amos in 1786.[1]

Dinah Holt and Nathaniel Ford were parents of eleven children born at Windham.

i ELIZABETH FORD, b. at Windham, 4 June 1733; d. at Windham, 1764; m. at Windham, 17 Oct 1751, JOSEPH MARTIN, b. at Windham, 29 Mar 1730 son of Ebenezer and Jerusha (Durkee) Martin. Joseph second married Elizabeth Coy at Windham on 3 Jan 1765.

ii DINAH FORD, b. at Windham, 17 Sep 1735; m. at Windham, 4 Mar 1756, her second cousin once removed, DANIEL PRESTON, b. at Windham, 16 Mar 1729 son of Benjamin and Deborah (Holt) Preston.

iii EUNICE FORD, b. 25 May 1737; d. at Windham, 21 Oct 1754.

iv NATHANIEL FORD, b. at Windham, 7 Nov 1739; d. at Greenbush, NY, 9 Oct 1758.

v AMOS FORD, b. at Windham, 2 Aug 1742; d. at Hampton, 21 Dec 1834; m. at Windham, 25 May 1761, LYDIA DAVISON, b. at Preston, 1 Jan 1738/9 daughter of Thomas and Lydia (Herrick) Davison; Lydia d. at Hampton, 15 May 1829.

vi ABRAHAM FORD, b. at Windham, 29 Aug 1744; d. at Brookfield, VT, 19 Mar 1832; m. at Windham, 8 Nov 1763, ABIGAIL WOODWARD, b. at Hampton, 1 May 1740 daughter of Jacob and Abigail (Flint) Woodward;[2] Abigail d. at Brookfield, 23 Mar 1826.

vii JONATHAN FORD, b. at Windham, 20 Sep 1746; d. at Alexander, NY, 28 Nov 1833; m. 1st 1772, ANNA FRENCH. Jonathan m. 2nd 1782, MARY WHALING; Mary d. 23 Mar 1820.

viii GEORGE FORD, b. 7 Mar 1748/9; d. 14 Jul 1750.

ix SARAH FORD, b. at Windham, 2 Jul 1751; m. at Hampton, 21 May 1772, THOMAS MOSELEY, b. at Windham, 7 May 1749 son of Nathaniel and Sarah (Capon) Moseley;[3] Thomas died “in public service at New York” 8 Sep 1776.[4]

x PHINEAS FORD, b. at Windham, 26 Mar 1753; d. at Chaplin, 7 Jun 1837; m. at Hampton, 22 Feb 1774, MARY MARTIN, b. at Windham, 9 May 1749 daughter of John and Sarah (Parker) Martin; Mary d. at Chaplin, 9 Dec 1827. Phineas and Mary did not have children. In his will written 15 August 1835 (probate 27 June 1837), Phineas left his household possessions and anything that might be due him from the government of the United States to his nephew Stephen Ford of Chaplin. Phineas was a Revolutionary War pensioner.
