Biography

Based on the year of her marriage (1671), Rachel Holton was probably born about 1651, likely at Hartford, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Dea. William Holton and Mary (Winchell?) Holton. The Holton family moved from Hartford to Northampton, Massachusetts, in 1653-54 when Rachel was a young child. ^{[1] [2] [3] [4]}

On October 10, 1671, she married at Northampton, Thomas Strong, son of Elder John Strong and Abigail Ford. She was his second wife. They had eleven children: ^{[1] [3] [4] [5]}

1. Joseph, born December 2, 1672; a.k.a Justice Joseph Strong; died December 23, 1763, at Coventry, Connecticut, aged 91.^[1][6]
2. Benjamin, born 1674; a weaver, resided at East Guilford, Connecticut; died August 27, 1755, aged 81.^[1][7]
3. Adino, born January 25, 1675-6; died December 31, 1749, at Woodbury, Connecticut, aged 73.^[1][8]
4. Waitstill, born 1677–8; married 1st, December 19, 1701, Sarah Janes, 2nd, March 17, 1707-8, Mindwell Bartlet; died November 13, 1762, at Northampton, aged 84.^[1][9][10]

After her first husband died October 3, 1689, Mrs. Rachel Strong remarried in Northampton on May 16, 1698, Nathan Bradley, of East Guilford (now Madison), Connecticut. She and her youngest five children moved to East Guilford in southern Connecticut. Her second husband died on November 10, 1713. There were no children from this marriage. ^{[1] [3] [4] [19] [20]}

It is likely, but unproven, that Rachel died in Guilford, Connecticut, as that is where she resided with her second husband. ^[19]

• Death: To date, no sources have been found confirming a death date or place for Rachel. A date of "1714" (previously cited here) has been found at "Find A Grave: Memorial #15146476," but the memorial is unsourced, and contains an unknown burial.
