Biography

Richard Hood Sr. immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Richard Hood was born about 1625, possibly in Lynn, Regis, Norfolk.[1]

According to "A Geneology - Richard Hood", by Reverend George Hood, published by Collins, Printer, 705 Jayne Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1867:

"Previous to the year 1650, Richard Hood came from Lynn Regis, Norfolk County, England, and settled on what is now called Nahant at Lynn, Massachusetts. He owned that peninsula. A house with a large elm tree before it now stands on the original site. Persecution drove him to this country and tradition says like many others he was compelled to forfeit most of a large property. The settlement of his estate shows him to have been in good circumstances, leaving to each of his thirteen children a respectable portion. One brother came with him; but whether more than one is uncertain. It is possible there were two. John, who settled in Kittery in Maine before 1652 and perhaps one in Boston, but this is not probable, in as much as the names of Richard and John only are found in the old records"

He died 12 Sep 1695 in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts.[2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Richard by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Richard:

Sorry, my theories got ahead of my research.

There were two in this family named Hannah Hood - Hannah the daughter of Richard Hood Sr., born 21 Oct 1655 at Lynn, and Hannah (Berry) Hood who married Richard Hood Jr. She was b. 12 Aug 1668, dau of Thaddeus and Hannah (Farrar) Berry. She m. Richard Hood jr. about 1689. She and her husband Rchd Hood jr were Quakers. see

The Essex Genealogist. (Online database. AmericanAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2011.) The Hood Family of Lynn, by Hannah Bartlett Drew, TEG 18:51-53. Apologies for my error. Hannah Hood-226 should be disconnected from Needham-588, and a new Hannah created dau of the Berrys, and connected to Edmund Needham as wife. Posted to Needham

Hannah Hood-226, connected here as daughter of Richard and Mary Hood, and also to Edmund Needham as wife, was born Hannah Berry, to Thaddeus Berry-724 and Hannah Farrar-928.

Hannah Berry's first husband was Richard Hood, who left her a widow who married Edmund Needham as her second husband.

Possibly her first husband was the Richard Hood Jr. shown as a son on this profile, and shown with no wife? Further research needed to confirm relationship.

All these people lived in Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts. The Essex Genealogist. (Online database. AmericanAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2011.) Ancestry of Margaret Needham of Danvers: Quakers, Witches and Pioneers, Vol 20:91-92
